Some map errors found on the Internet

This time I wanted to check what can we find on the Web sites. There is not much to the subject, I have found some old maps but no revelations. Accidentally I have found three images. This is map of present-day France. At last France moves its eastern border to the East. Such a typical error occurs when a presentation has to be done ASAP. Of course France is expected to be represented by the cities, but them again moved much too far to the East. Another typical press map error. Slovakia and Slovenia are frequently mistaken for non-Europeans as well as Western Europeans. Slovakia with an Mediterranean sea border presented on the picture above. Once again CNN. As we remember from elementary school, one of the southern neighbours of Germany is Switzerland... But if so, where is Czech Republic?

Travel by Autobahn in 1978

Ich bin ein Berliner , said once prominent politician (BTW later killed, but not in spite of this funny sentence). Ich und meine beliebte Helga will leave Berlin for a holiday trip to eastern Prussia to the lakes to our former Haus in Lyck. Has anything changed? Why Autobahn has to be ending 80 km from Berlin? Why does Stettin is named as 'Szczecin', und Danzig sounds also barbarian... Hmmm. Everything changed. There is no Elbing, Allenstein, Lyck, but Elblag, Olsztyn, Elk. There is something wrong with this map, Helga!!! Luckily we didn't buy train tickets to Konigsberg to old Tante Leni... Straight talk On this 1978 map we may see the old pre-1939 Poland-Germany borders. There are only German names of Polish cities outside the Polish pre-WWII borders. Similar in Russian part of Konigsberg area (Kalingradskaja oblast'). It could be the problem for German young travellers, but not for the elder, especially when they might remember those cities from their past (...

Poland as seen by Turkish child in 1987

In 1987 a kid from Istanbul could learn from geography lesson that one of most western Asian states is Poland and Romania. Polish neighbours are Soviet Union, large Czechoslovakia (must have conquered Hungary and north Serbia from Yugoslavia, and large part of no-man's land on the western and nothern border. Polish territory? Eastern Germany? Just in case, if something change, to have not to print new maps for children? PS. Did Turkey respect Yalta and Potsdam conferences rules? Any idea?
